THE ANN ARBOR THRIFT SHOP

WHERE YOUR SHOPPING HELPS THE COMMUNITY

Who Benefits

Every day a Thrift Shop member answers requests from social service case workers on behalf of local residents who need emergency aid for clothing, housing, utility bills, medical or dental care, car repair, or transportation. Most of these people need immediate one-time help not normally provided by local, state or federal programs to overcome short-term difficulties. The Thrift Shop gives between $8,000 and $10,000 a month, usually in amounts under $300, in response to these requests. In addition, regular monthly support and special seasonal grants are given to various community agencies. These currently include:

Motor Meals of Ann Arbor             Personalized Nursing Lighthouse           Delonis Homeless Center
Community Action Network
   St. Andrew’s Breakfast Program
Family Learning Center
Washtenaw Affordable Housing

And, of course, you benefit. You get high quality merchandise at low, low prices, with the satisfaction of knowing that your shopping helps others in your community.

In FY2009 the Thrift Shop gave nearly $161,775 in grants to social service agencies and emergency aid to local individuals.
